Furnishing a Vacation Home From the Scratch

This totally renovated 2 bedroom apartment was bought for rental purposes as well as for the family themselves to spend their vacations and for remote work when ever possible. Beautiful sea and garden views together with an open plan layout make the small apartment feeling airy, light and spacious.

Renting out a vacation home in Spain is rather easy. Of course, it’s renters market at the moment and that makes it even more important to stand out from the crowd and attract potential renters.

Tips For Creating a Standout Vacation Rental

  1. Keep it simple

When designing vacation rentals, simplicity in the furnishing is the key word. Keep the furniture highly edited and accessorising down to a minimum. Use neutrals as your foundation, then build on that with accent colours. Use cushions, blankets, vases, bowls and ‘feel good’ art.

  2. Mix & match

You can buy the main pieces of furniture in one place and save with the transportation , but add also some smaller pieces from different brands. In this particular case we bought a lot from Ikea such as the sofa, dining table and beds, but the home was spiced up with pieces from Zara Home, Westwing and Casa Mijas.

  3. Decorate with Purpose

Every room and space should have a function. In this home it was easy and obvious as the open plan layout gave spaces for different functions - cooking, dining and watching TV & relaxing. Both bedrooms were quite small, but it was important to make the beds inviting and comfortable. In the other bedroom there’s a locked sideboard for owners’ personal stuff, and a desk for working in the other.

  4. Add Thoughtful Touches

Choosing matching bedlinen and towels show that you care and want your guests to enjoy their stay. Same thing goes with the kitchen utensils - there should be enough of them and all going well together.

The idea is that if guests have a wonderful experience with the home, hopefully they take better care of it. The more you finish a rental home — the more you complete the story — the more respect people have for it.

4 Easy Ways To Fresh Up Your Home

You don’t need to break a bank to update and fresh up the atmosphere of your home. There are plenty of inexpensive and affordable solutions. We all love to have a cosy home where to feel good. Now due to this corona pan-epidemic money can be tight and there’s no extra to spend around.

Here are some tips how to make it without a big budget.

1. Paint A Wall

New paint has a significant effect on the mood of the room. You don’t need to paint the whole room yet just one wall so called accent wall. It brings personality to the space. Choose any colour you want. It can be bright yellow, calming blue or natural beige. Painting one wall is not a huge job and you can probably do it yourself without hiring anyone. Remember you can always paint it again if you prefer another tone after a while. So it is not a structural issue.

2. Buy A Plant

Having leafy greens at home has been a trend for some time now. Plants really makes a difference in the mood and they have benefits too - such as cleaning the air inside. If you already have plants, check if they need new soil or perhaps plant them in a new pot. At the moment big plants such as monsteras are popular as well as hanging baskets.

3. Update Cushions

You don’t need to change the whole interior of a room. Check which textiles you could change to new ones. Even a couple of new cushion covers in different colours fresh up the atmosphere. Or change your grey curtains to white, for example. You can even try some bold patterns. At draper’s there are usually a corner where they sell smaller pieces of fabrics I reduced price. That’s my favourite corner!

4. Hang Some Art

If you have frames in different sizes and colours, make a collage with them. Place some photos, drawings, piece of fabric, wallpaper or what ever you like in these frames. Then gather them in a group and hang on a wall. Grouped installation looks better than several pieces around your home. If you need some new pics, check if you can find something you like here.
